About Me
About 2 years ago, I had a wonderful friend who introduced me to Zumba for the first time in my life. I had heard about it before from infomercials, but with 2 left feet did not think it was for me. After hitting the peak of my weight at close to 230 lbs and only being 5 feet tall, it was time to do something, anything. I was panting going up the stairs in my house. At this point, it was not even about looks, but now about my health. Especially, when diabetes and heart disease run rampant in my family.
I made it through that first class stopping and panting the whole way through, but I survived. The music and energy in the room was so much fun. The instructor also made me feel so welcome, even though, I was probably the largest one in the room, or so I thought.
I kept going back and little by little, got better at the steps and could keep up more with the instructor. I also changed up my diet. Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but it is not only exercise, but food as well. I then started noticing the inches and weight come off and I have dropped 50 lbs so far.
Last year, our family relocated from Utah to Corona, CA due to my husbands job and I was surprised to see it has not caught on here as much as in other parts of the country. I started having Zumba withdrawals. Many studios were either too far or too expensive. My husband suggested I get certified and start teaching, so I did.
I am only halfway to my goal, but am having a lot of fun getting there. Not sure if I sound like an infomercial, but I really had tried about everything to lose weight until I started doing Zumba. It does work and if I can do it, anyone can :)
My Zumba Style
Different Zumba instructors have different styles. My style comes from the philosophy that high-intensity does not necessarily equal high-impact. My classes are based on "interval training", which is the concept of mixing bursts of high intensity work with lower intensity periods of recovery. Keep in mind you will burn more calories and fat by doing this than doing "high impact" for an hour. The best part about Zumba is that no matter what, you can always adjust it to your level of fitness.
The most important thing is I want my classes to be safe, enjoyable and FUN so that those who participate will be able to do so consistently and see results. Consistency will improve your desired results.
Feel free to send me an email at any time if you have any questions to zumbafunwithjudy@gmail.com. I hope to see you in one of my classes soon.
